Funded by the Humanities Initiative of New York University, Artistic Activism @ NYU is hosting a series of working lunch meetings where academics, artists and activists come together to discuss a topic germane to the study and practice of artistic activism. In order to focus the discussion and make the session fruitful each lunch meeting is organized around a specific theme and or question. Over Fall of 2011 and Spring of 2012, for instance, we grappled with the issues of Efficacy (How do we know if artistic activism works?), Education (What are the pedagogical possibilities and limits of artistic activism?), Fun (What is the role of pleasure and play in artistic activism?), and Legibility (To whom should artistic activism be legible?). Each session is taped and archived. Best of all, lunch is free.
